Dundas one win away

Dundas Blues can finish off their first round playoff series with a win at home Saturday night, after topping Dunnville 5-2 in the opponent's own rink, Wednesday night.

Some familiar faces helped give Dundas the 4 games to one series lead. The Dundas line of D.J. McConnell, Mike Peters and Kevin Dowling continued to shut down Dunnville's top line while contributing a total of six points. Call-up's Derek Searle and Brayden Knott contributed to the win again, Robert Bentivegna contributed a goal and assist, and Dylan Gilbert chipped in with two points.

Dundas goalie Cam Graham made 24 saves for the win.

Mike Peters scored the game's first goal, assisted by Kevin Dowling, in the final minute of the first period.

Dunnville came back to take a 2-1 lead in the first four minutes of the second frame, but Robert Bentivegna, assisted by Dylan Gilbert and Mike Tache, tied it up just before the end of the middle period.

Dundas took control in the final period, scoring three unanswered goals. First it was the Dundas line again, with D.J. McConell finding the net with help from Kevin Dowling. Then Derek Searle scored, assisted by Bentivegna and Gilbert. Dowling iced the win with an empty net goal, with help from McConnell, in the final minute.

Dundas stayed out of the penalty box for much of the game, receiving only 10 minutes of penalty time for a total of seven infractions. Dunnville had 44 minutes on 12 penalties.

But all Dundas' goals came during even-strength situations. Dundas didn't score on any of their nine powerplay chances, while Dunnville scored on their one powerplay.

Game time Saturday night at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas is 8:30 p.m.
