Parkside Panthers Ontario Champs

Parkside's senior boys basketball team outplayed the comeback kids from Windsor to win the Dundas school's first provincial basketball championship in 23 years, Wednesday night.

Kyle Giedraitis, with 19 points, along with Quinn Henderson and Justin Johnson - who each scored 15 points, and their teammates took a five point lead in the first quarter and stretched it to a seven point lead at halftime.

Their opponent, Herman high school of Windsor, had already come back from two eight point defecits in both the semifinals and quarterfinals to advance to the championship game.

But Parkside stretched their lead to 14-points by the end of the third quarter, en-route to the 63-51 victory. The Dundas school's team was the first team in the tournament to stop the Herman team from a second half comeback.

Parkside last won the AA OFSAA championship in 1987. The school also won the provincial title in 1974.

The 2010 victory comes at a very fitting time, as the Dundas high school celebrates its 50th anniversary. The entire roster has permanently etched their names into the school - and community - history books.
